Pyongyang Restaurant, Jakarta

Pyongyang Restaurant

Pyongyang is a capital and biggest city in the Demoractic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which also commonly known as North Korea. Pyongyang restaurant offers various authentic North Korean foods. Some of common foods are mostly similar with South Korean cuisine such as Japchae (jabchae, chapcae), Tteokbokki (Ddeokokki), grilled meat/pork, with Banchan (small Korean style dishes) served as side dishes of main course food.

Japchae is a Korean traditional food made consists of Korean glass noodle that is stir fried in sesame oil with various vegetables (usually in form of thin slices of veggies), thin sliced seafood (shrimp and squid) and flavoured with Korean traditional soy sauce. In presentation, japchae is garnished with sesame seeds on top.

Tteokbokki (also pronounce as Topokki) is one of popular Korean snack food that made from rice flour (rice cake). Tteokbokki is cooked with red sauce made from traditional ingredients, sliced green chili, and sliced onion. The sauce tastes a bit spicy, but the Tteokbokki tastes a bit salty.

Banchan in Pyongyang consist of various small dishes such as spinach with sesame, kimchi, mushroom, and crispy bean curd.

Various grilled meat are usually served with green lettuce, thin sliced garlic and green chilli. The way we enjoy this grilled meat are by wrap it inside the lettuce, put garlic and chilli, and put some sauce on the meat. Close the wrapping and enjoy the meat taste combined with fresh veggies.

Good experience to try these popular Korean foods and you might meet some people from North Korean embassy here.
