Pempek Gaby, Bekasi

Pempek Gaby (Indonesian Style Fish Cake)

Dress code: CasualPempek (also known as Mpek-Mpek) is a traditional Indonesian food that is originaly coming from South Sumatra particularly in Palembang area. Pempek is made from seawater fish called Tenggiri (Scomberomorus commerson). The same fish is also used to make fish cracker, siew may, otak-otak, and meat ball. Tenggiri fish is
also classified in the same family with Tuna and Mackerel fish.

Pempek is served in various ways such as traditional fried, egg fried, soup,and grilled (indonesian: bakar). Commonly, pempek has various shape such as kapal selam (english: submarine, with egg in the middle), lenjer (thin sliced and fried with eggs), bawang (mixed with crushed garlic), and keriting (english: curly). Traditionally, pempek are fried and served with sliced of cucumber, spread of crushed dry shrimp (indonesian: ebi), black sauce that made from vinegar and brown sugar. However, nowadays lot of new way to serve this food such as in bakar (grilled) and soup that is called tekwan (thin sliced served with ear mushroom) or model (served with tofu and sliced cucumber). 

Beside of Pempek, this restaurant also serves great Pindang Patin. Patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus) is species of water fish that originally lives in the river. Patin is boiled with various herbs, spices with pineapple and young tomato which produce great fresh taste.
